Others took to the Malayan jungle to wage guerrilla warfare: the so-called Malayan People’s (largely Hakka Chinese) Anti-Japanese Army, led and indoctrinated by Chinese Communists, armed and advised by British officers, survived to become the nucleus of a postwar insurrection.
