That was not to be, because Lee and his People’s Action Party (PAP) had views of Malaysia’s future quite different from those of Malaysia’s Malay leadership. For Lee and the PAP, it must be a “Malaysian Malaya” (code for “not a predominantly Malay Malaysia”) in which all ethnic groups would participate on an equal footing.
