A necessary adjunct is a sense of family responsibility: toward the status of one’s family in the community, but also toward the status of a particular person or even a whole generation within the family: “Our predecessors have established excellent opportunities for us to get rich in Europe. If we cannot grasp these opportunities and maintain these links, we are unworthy sons.”
